About Us
What this site is
Square Footage Calculator is a small, independent website with one free tool: working out how much area you are dealing with before you buy flooring, tile, paint, carpet, turf or gravel. It handles the three shapes real projects come in β rectangles, circles and triangles β and lets you add several areas together, which is how awkward rooms (L-shapes, alcoves, bays) are actually measured.
The maths is the standard geometry taught in school β length Γ width, Ο Γ radiusΒ², base Γ height Γ· 2 β and our how-to-calculate guide shows every formula and conversion openly, because you should never have to trust a black box with your own measurements.
Imperial and metric, side by side
Square footage is the everyday unit in the United States, but much of the world buys flooring by the square metre. So you can measure in feet, metres, inches, centimetres or yards, and every result is shown in square feet, square metres and square yards together β no separate converter needed.
Honest about estimates
A calculator is only as good as the measurements typed into it, and real rooms are rarely perfect rectangles. Our results are estimates for planning and ordering materials, with a waste allowance you control. They are not a substitute for a professional survey, an appraiser's measurement or your installer's own figures β and we say so on every page.
Privacy by design
The calculator runs entirely in your browser. The measurements you enter are not sent to our servers, not stored in a database, and not shared with anyone.
How the site is funded
The site is free to use. We may earn a small commission when visitors buy tools or books through Amazon links on our pages, at no extra cost to the buyer. That is the site's only income, and it never influences the calculator's results. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
